Alex Horne's kids won't watch Taskmaster because it's 'too weird'

Horne and Greg Davies have hosted Taskmaster since 2015, but the show's creator says even his kids won't watch it.

Alex Horne has shepherded Taskmaster all the way from the Edinburgh Fringe to Channel 4 primetime via its initial run on Dave. But that doesn't mean his children are willing to watch their dad in action.

The 45-year-old star has three sons with business journalist Rachel Horne, but it's his own fault that they never tune in to the latest madcap antics from the Taskmaster house.

In fact, Horne told The Times that his sons simply refuse to watch the show because of the many absurd situations their dad finds himself in during the course of the ridiculous challenges.

"We try to watch telly but it’s hard to find something everybody likes," said Horne. "The boys won’t watch Taskmaster; it’s just too weird watching Dad put his bare a*** on a cream cake or wearing false breasts. God knows what their mates say."

Horne has fronted the TV version of Taskmaster with Greg Davies for eight years and explained that the Taskmaster house "really does feel like a home" after 16 series, three editions of Champion of Champions, and four New Year specials.

He said: "We’ve rented it since the start in 2015 and I’m beginning to suspect we might not get our deposit back. We have knocked down some parts of the house and the tasks can be quite messy."

Horne described his bond with Davies as the other "perfect marriage" in his life, despite their often antagonistic dynamic on screen.

Taskmaster season 17 is heading to TV screens later this year, with a line-up including Ted Lasso actor Nick Mohammed, Irish stand-up Joanne McNally, and Inside No. 9 co-creator Steve Pemberton.

The most recent series saw Australian comedian Sam Campbell emerge as the winner, while Mock the Week veteran Dara O'Briain was crowned the third Champion of Champions soon after.
