The phrase "I'll be back" from may be one of film's most famous ever lines, but the man who made it a piece of movie history never wanted to utter it. We talk of course of Arnold Schwarzenegger as 'The Terminator'.

At a press conference to promote new movie 'The Expendables 2' the actor admitted that director had to convince him to say the iconic line in that way as he thought it should be said as the alltogether more clumsy "I will be back".

He said: "I remember when we did 'Terminator', we did the line 'I'll be back, I had no idea this was going to be an important line and something that people would repeat, I think I had an argument with Jim Cameron about saying "I will be back" and he said 'no' I wrote it 'I'll be back'."

Schwarzenegger went on to describe how he thought the line should be said, adding: "I said maybe it's a little bit more machine like to say 'I will be back', he[Cameron] says no, I wrote it 'I'll be back'."

It seems to have been a torturous process getting that one bit of dialogue, as Schwarzenegger described how the process continued.

"We shoot it 10 times did about 10 different versions and then he picked one and says but just say it like this, so I did say the line 'I'll be back'."

Even after 'The Terminator hit screens the star couldn't quite believe fans love of his character's simple quote, saying: "Sure enough when the movie came out and people come up to me and say, 'say the line say the line and I'd say 'what line?' and they'd say  'I'll be back' and I'd say [quietly] 'I'll be back', they'd say 'no the way you said it in the movie' and I'd say 'I'll be back' [loudly]."

So not only do we have James Cameron to thank for 'Avatar' and 'Titanic', but also the Terminator's famous line "I'll be back", as if Schwarzenegger had his way it would've been quite different.
