Carrie Fisher Confirms Role In New Star Wars

Carrie Fisher has confirmed in an interview that she will be appearing in the new Star Wars film.

Speaking to US magazine TV Guide, the 57-year-old actress said she expected to start shooting scenes in March or April.

Rumours have surrounded Star Wars: Episode VII, which is being written and directed by JJ Abrams and filmed at Pinewood studios in London.

There has been no confirmation that other original cast members Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will appear as Han Solo and Luke Skywalker.

But Fisher will star as Princess Leia again and has said she would like to revisit the look that has since become iconic.

"I'd like to wear my old [cinnamon buns] hairstyle again - but with white hair," she said. "I think that would be funny."

Disney, which owns Lucasfilm, have yet to officially confirm any cast members or characters - other than R2-D2.

And Hamill has refused to be drawn on whether he will make an appearance.

During a Reddit AMA this week he said: "The only character I know for sure is returning is my friend R2-D2. He hasn't stopped beeping about it."

He added later on: "Haha. I'm not being coy, really. When I find something out, I'll let everybody know. But nothing has been decided yet."

With JJ Abrams recently announcing that the script was complete, it appears that things are now full steam ahead for the sequel, which is set to be released in December 2015.

In November hundreds of people attended open auditions around the country in the hope of getting a starring role.
