David Tennant 'Right To Be Worried' About Being Killed Off On Broadchurch

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall has said that David Tennant is "right to be worried" about being killed off on the show's second season.

The actor's character, DI Alec Hardy, was left with an uncertain future at the end of the first run last year, and - speaking to Radio Times - Chibnall has teased that it'd be tough for him to return to work, especially as Tennant himself has such a packed schedule.

"He's right to be worried," Chibnall mused. "He's a king on the stage, he's off doing an American show right now, I believe. He's got a lot on his plate.

"David’s very busy and Alec Hardy, at the end of series one, he was fired from the police, he had a heart problem. I don't see how you come back. How would that happen?"

Broadchurch was so popular in the UK that it's being adapted for the US under the name of Gracepoint. Tennant will reprise his role as Hardy but the critically-acclaimed Olivia Colman was not approached.

"I'm not in it but I'm busy doing other things," she told Graham Norton. "I would quite like to have had the option to say 'no'." Instead, Breaking Bad star Anna Gunn will step up to the plate.

Details on the premise of the ITV show's second season are being kept under wraps, but new episodes are expected to be shot later in 2014.

The first season, which aired from March to April last year, was a huge success in the ratings; launching to 9.07 million and closing to 10.47 million in total ITV viewers.
