Emmerdale has received nearly 150 complaints following Thursday’s episode that saw Gennie Sharma’s (played by actress Sian Reese-Williams) shock murder.

Ofcom received almost 100 complaints, and ITV directly got 50 over the scenes that were broadcast. The majority of the complaints stated that the scenes were too graphic to be shown before the 9pm watershed.

The episode, which saw killer Cameron Murray (actor Dominic Power) suffocate Gennie following a car crash, attracted around seven million viewers.

He was seen to chase her off the road, and then smother her with his bare hands after Gennie overheard Cameron confessing to the deaths of Carl King and Alex Moss to girlfriend Debbie Dingle.

Ofcom are presently deciding whether to investigate the episode as viewers blast the Yorkshire soap.

An ITV spokesman said: "This episode was the culmination of a very dramatic storyline which has been running for over a year. We made sure appropriate warnings were broadcast before the episode aired."

It’s been a murderous few months in the Dales, with Cameron even managing to kill during the live episode that celebrated the TV show’s milestone 40the anniversary in October.

Carl King met his maker at the hands of killer Cameron (and a brick), but Chas thuough it was her that ended Carl’s life.
