'Now Everybody Feels Famous': Mariah Carey Shares Why She's Keeping Up With The Social Media Craze

Mariah Carey thinks the internet makes her feel like a regular person as she is able to directly contact her fans and help them feel a part of her network.

The 43-year-old singer took musician friend Jermaine Dupri’s advice to release music first online and her next tune will come out on November 11 via her Facebook page.

She admits the idea is brilliant and will keep her being successful for a long time.

Mariah told MTV News: "I think now everybody feels famous because of the internet but [it's good] for me to be a regular person and reach my fans directly. I think it's a genius concept.

"Honestly, interacting directly with your fans is the best thing you can do because they are the ones who keep you where you are. Longevity is something that not everybody can have."

Jermaine, 41, started doing management work for Mariah this year but has worked with her in the past on tunes such as ‘Always Be My Baby’ and ‘Sweetheart’.

The former American Idol judge can’t praise his social media ideas enough.

Mariah continued: “Jermaine's concept was great because it was something different than I'd done previously, and we needed to reach all of my fans.

"Even some of the biggest new stars that have become meteorites over the past couple of years, you see them flailing and you wonder why. And maybe it's because they didn't have that connection with their fans.”
