Fiona Apple has obsessive-compulsive disorder

Singer Fiona Apple relies on her brother to drive her around Los Angeles because her severe obsessive-compulsive disorder has turned her into the worst motorist.

The Criminal hitmaker has struggled with the mental illness for some time but she confesses she finally sought professional treatment so she could live a normal life.

She tells Elle magazine, "I had really bad obsessive-compulsive disorder. At its worst, I was compelled to leave my house at three o'clock in the morning and go out in the alley because I just knew that the paper-towel roll I threw in the recycling bin was uncomfortable, like it was lying the wrong way, and I would be down in the garbage."

And although her anxiety is now mostly under control, the Grammy Award winner admits she still has trouble driving and relies on her brother to take her from place to place.

She adds, "I'll be going to (Los Angeles venue) Largo to see my friends... (and) I'll start freaking out, and it won't stop until I'm actually there."
