'I'm Blind As A Bat In My Left Eye': Johnny Depp Reveals Eye Condition Is The Reason For His Love Of Shades

Johnny Depp has revealed why he's never seen without a pair of tinted sunglasses – he's partially blind in one eye.

The 50-year-old actor has had eyesight issues since birth and relies heavily on prescription glasses.

"Everything is just very, very blurry. I've never had proper vision," he told Rolling Stone magazine.

He's also near-sighted in his right eye and explained that although neither condition can be treated, the conditions are easy to live with in his personal life but it can make filming quite difficult as he's unable to see anything further than a few inches away from him.

The Lone Ranger star also opened up about splitting from his partner of 14 years and mother of his two children, Vanessa Paradis.

"The last couple years have been a bit bumpy. At times, certainly unpleasant, but that's the nature of breakups, I guess, especially when there are kiddies involved," he explained.

"Relationships are very difficult. Especially in the racket that I'm in because you're constantly away or they're away and so it's hard. It wasn't easy on her. It wasn't easy on me. It wasn't easy on the kids. So, yeah. The trajectory of that relationship - you play it out until it goes, one thing leads to another."

But despite the heartbreak the split caused for all involved, Depp admitted that he didn't not turn to any vices to help him through it.

"In terms of the breakup, I definitely wasn't going to rely on the drink to ease things or cushion the blow or cushion the situation. 'Cause that could have been fatal. I felt it was my duty to be real clear throughout that. I had something pretty serious to focus on, really, which was making sure that my kids were gonna be cool," he said.

Johnny will be starring alongside Armie Hammer this summer in the big-budget adaptation of The Lone Ranger.
