Danny DeVito meanwhile starred in a particularly memorable episode as Herb Powell, hapless Homer’s half-brother. A wealthy car manufacturer, Herb makes the mistake of letting Homer design a new vehicle for his company and, unsurprisingly, it doesn’t go well...

One of the most famous guest stars ever however was the late Michael Jackson, who played Leon Kompowski and helped Bart pen a birthday song for his sister Lisa.

Yeardley Smith, who voices the eight-year-old brainbox, later revealed that MJ hadn’t actually sung the tune himself for the show. TMZ reports her as saying: “[Michael] was not allowed to sing on the show, so he literally hand-picked a guy to sing like him. How unnerving would it be to sing like Michael Jackson in front of Michael Jackson?”

The man he chose was apparently a singer named Kipp Lennon. Michael was credited at the end of the show as “John Jay Smith”.
