'There's A Real Thrill To Come': David Tennant Teases 'Very Different' Ending To Gracepoint From Broadchurch

As viewers in the US prepare for the premiere of Gracepoint - the American version of Broadchurch - Scottish actor David Tennant has hinted that fans are in for a treat. The actor who plays the role of Detective Emmett Carver in the new FOX network drama, also plays the role of Detective Inspector Alec Hardy in the Brit version. Keeping up?

Whilst Gracepoint follows the same premise of Broadchurch, which proved to be a huge success when it aired on ITV in the UK in 2013, David recently insisted that the endings between the two shows will be "very different". After eight episodes of Broadchurch, the murderer was finally revealed as Joe Miller, the husband of Ellie, the Detective Sergeant who was investigating the murder of Danny.

Hinting that Gracepoint is going to be thrilling, David told Entertainment Weekly: "What they have is a very different note, which is thrilling for me. I feel like I’m almost saying too much just saying that. There’s a real thrill to come." Supporting the actor's comments about the US drama's take on the murder mystery, actress Anna Gunn, who will be seen playing the role of Ellie Miller, added: "They’re both equally wonderful and thrilling and will take the audience on a journey that’s equally true. It just means the writing is so good, they take you off on a different path, but it’s got—frankly, I feel both have equal emotional impact."

David, once again teased the end of the drama as being the most exciting when he was asked what scene he found most challenging to shoot. He quipped: "It builds to a sharp end, this story. The most rewarding [acting] moments are at the end. That’s true for both of us."

Oh the suspense!

Amid the excitement of the new drama, David reportedly found himself at the centre of criticism about his American accent when critics saw a trailer for Gracepoint which showed him speaking with a Californian accent.

Reacting to the criticism, the Daily Record quoted the actor as saying: "If they’re fans of Doctor Who, I didn’t use a Scottish accent in that, either. I used an English accent in that. I think doing different accents is part of the job of acting really. It’s something that I quite enjoy the challenge of.

“Obviously, it’s something that you take seriously, and you work with dialect coaches to help you, and then you practice until it’s in your bones. It’s part of what actors do. I always like seeing people transforming themselves in whatever way that might be, and a different accent is part of that."
