After weeks of auditions, fierce battle rounds and some tough decisions from judge’s will.i.am, Jessie J, Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue, Andrea Begley emerged victorious and became the shock winner of The Voice UK. The singer with the voice of an angel fended off stiff competition from Leah McFall, Matt Henry and Mike Ward.

For the past few weeks Leah McFall has been the bookies favourite to win the show, however Andrea Begley managed to miraculously come through and take the crown. She has consistently blown away the judges and audience alike with her angelic voice and tonight was no different.

Her first performance of the night was a hauntingly beautiful version of Evanescence’s ‘My immortal’, of which the judges really loved.

Her coach Danny O’Donoghue said that he had shivers and added that “not a single hair on my body was not standing on end.” Tom told her that it was beautiful and “very emotional”, meanwhile will.i.am said that “you have a bright spirit and I hear it in your voice.”

The other finalists also put in some great performances, with Mike singing Elvis Presley’s hit ‘Suspicious minds’, Matt singing David Gray’s ‘Babylon’ and Leah belting out the Whitney Houston classic ‘I will always love you.’

Next came the duets and Andrea’s dream came true when she got to perform with her favourite band, The Script- and the lead singer just so happens to be her mentor Danny!

Setting the stage alight, Andrea sang her heart out to one of the bands biggest hits, ‘Hall of fame’- and looked liked she was enjoying every moment of it! Her coach Danny however, seemed more excited to be singing with Andrea!

Not to be outdone, the other contestants also performed amazing duets with their mentors.

Mike and Tom Jones brought country home with Tom’s hit ‘Green, green grass of home’, whilst Matt and Jessie J brought some soul to the proceedings with their version of Luther Vandross’ ‘Never too much.’ Meanwhile, Leah and will.i.am absolutely smashed it with a weird but wonderful performance of ‘Bang bang.’

Sadly, it was the end of the road for Matt Henry as it was revealed that he won the least votes and came 4th in the competition. However, it wasn’t over for the final 3.

The trio had to sing their favourite songs of the series and surprisingly, they all chose their first audition songs.

So whilst Mike sang ‘Don’t close your eyes’ and Leah sang ‘Loving you’, Andrea chose to sing ‘Angel’- the song that made coach Danny fall in love with her voice.

After the performance, Danny said that it “the best I’ve heard you sound... a winning performance.” And it seems he was right!

After Holly announced Andrea as the winner, the Irish star seemed in shock and so it seems was the entire audience. Danny however was over the moon and ran on stage to embrace his act, but will.i.am stormed off the set- obviously upset that his act Leah didn’t win.

Andrea then sang her song again and this time was joined by all the live finalists and the coaches, including will.i.am who eventually came back on stage.

This ended an amazing night which included musical performances by Dizzee Rascal and Robbie Williams and Michael Buble. The coaches also wowed the crowd by opening the show with a group version of ‘Get lucky’ by Daft Punk and Pharell Williams.

So that’s it folks, The Voice UK is over for another year. Did you think Andrea was a worthy winner? Let us know!
