Tom Cruise's new movie 'Jack Reacher' premiered in London last night, with the stars of the film hitting the red carpet in Leicester Square, including Tom, ahead of the film's release next week.

Cruise was described by his co-stars, the director and the author of the Reacher novels, Lee Childs as the perfect man to play his action hero on the screen despite not being 6' 5" as Reacher is described in the novels.

According to EW, the star introduced the movie at Comic-Con by saying: “For those of you who know the books, I’m obviously not 6-foot-5, like Jack Reacher. But Lee felt that I was the right guy to drive fast cars and kick the s**t out of people onscreen.”

However on the red carpet Tom was more universally positive, saying that the film was "fast", "dangerous", and "fun".

Writer Lee Childs said at the premiere that he was surprised how similar Cruise was to Reacher, making the remarks despite their vertical differences.

Cruise said: "I've read all the books so I felt I knew the character quite well," adding: "It has very unique kind of analogue action, and he's an analogue character in a digital age."

Joining Cruise on the red carpet were co-stars Rosamund Pike, David Oyewwlo and Robert Duvall, with Childs and screenwriter/director Christopher McQuarrie also in Leicester Square.

The movie sees Jack Reacher (Cruise) an ex-military investigator hired by a defence attorney (Pike) to help establish a man's innocence of a collection of sniper killings.

A plethora of British stars also came out for the debut of the action movie, with 'The Dark Knight Rises' star Tom Hardy leading a pack of Briteratti including Lewis Hamilton, who attended with girlfriend and X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger and former world boxing champ David Haye.

'Jack Reacher' is released nationwide on December 21.
