It was the semi-finals of The X Factor tonight so things were getting serious between the contestants as they each sung their heart out for their place in the final next week.

As they each sang a Song For You and a Song For The Judges, each act had two chances to impress the judges. However, the judges no longer have the power to decide who stays in the competition, it’s now all down to the public vote.

First up was Nicole Scherzinger’s act Jahmene who performed a breathtaking rendition of ‘I Look To You’. After making the judges cry, he next sang Etta James’ ‘At Last’ which he performed during his first audition.

Although Christopher Maloney received some great comments from the judges for his first performance, Westlife’s ‘You Raise Me Up’, his second song let him down as the judges seemed less than impressed.

Union J had the girls swooning once again as they performed a Emeli Sande and Labrinth collabaration ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’. Gary praised their performance as he said: ‘Tonight, you really blended brilliantly.’ However, again the judges were disappointed by their second performance and thought the boys could have done better.

James Arthur turned emotional tonight as he dedicated his performance of ‘One’ by U2 to his brothers and sisters.

N’aww.

As Tulisa thought it was a ‘performance worthy of going through to the final’, Gary admitted he loved watching him ‘knock his opponents down one by one’.

‘I will be extremely disappoined if you’re not singing in front of me next week,’ he added.

So the contestants can do no more as it’s all down to the public vote to decide who will be continuing to the final next week.
