How the newspapers covered the latest chapter in the Brexit saga

As the Brexit saga rumbles on, Thursday’s newspaper front pages focused on fiery scenes in Parliament following the return of MPs.

Angry exchanges in the Commons saw Boris Johnson refuse to apologise for his decision to prorogue parliament - deemed unlawful by the Supreme Court in a decision that prompted MPs’ return on Wednesday.

Mr Johnson also sparked anger by refusing to temper what some described as his ‘inflammatory’ language, and by saying the best way to honour murdered MP Jo Cox would be to deliver Brexit.

The PM also accused his Labour rivals of cowardice by refusing to agree to a general election, while opposition parties insisted that they would not agree to an election until they were sure the threat of a no-deal Brexit on October 31 was off the table.

Not all newspapers focused on politics, with The Sun choosing to focus on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal tour to South Africa, where baby Archie met Archbishop Desmond Tutu, while the Daily Star ran a story about supposed hosepipe bans while parts of the UK are suffering flooding.
