Leicester City are well into their second week of their search to replace Enzo Maresca.

With the man who led the Foxes back to the Premier League now confirmed as the new head coach at Chelsea, his former club have doubled down on their efforts to replace him.

Since Chelsea’s interest in Maresca became known, West Brom boss Carlos Corberan had been favourite for the King Power Stadium hotseat. However, claims of talks with Steve Cooper saw the former Nottingham Forest boss climb to odds on.

The likeable Welshman remains among the shortest odds to take over at the King Power Stadium - but the latest figures from Sky Bet show Graham Potter's have been slashed in the last couple of days. Indeed Potter is now not only the favourite - but odds on.

Corberan is second favourite at 5/2, with Cooper now 7/2. David Moyes who was once 7/2 is now 25/1 against. Ex-Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has also been linked and is now quoted at 12/1.

Despite his links with Forest Cooper is still high up in the betting. A World Cup-winner as coach of England’s under-17s team in 2017, Cooper cut his managerial teeth at Swansea City before joining the Reds in September of 2021, taking them from the bottom of the Championship to the Premier League via a play-off final victory in eight short months.

After then keeping Forest in the top-flight, he was sacked last December as the Reds continued to struggle, despite significant investment.

Cooper has turned down several approaches since losing his job at the City Ground, but has been biding his time before committing himself. However, The Sun reported last week that the 44-year-old was now ready to join Leicester.

A move for Corberan could be complicated by the need to pay compensation to West Brom, an issue that would not arise with Cooper. The Spaniard is well-regarded in coaching circles. Potter is also a free agent.

As for Oscar Garcia, his stock is high with the King Power hierarchy for the job he has done in guiding OH Leuven away from the threat of relegation to 10th in the Belgian top-flight, matching the club’s best finish.

Moyes has slipped down the odds in recent days, having left West Ham after a successful period with United. Grumbles about the style of football made the latter months rather joyless but he will be forever remembered as the man who guided the Hammers to Europa Conference League glory.
