The calculator built to help hard-pressed NHS staff figure out their prospective new pay has crashed due to overwhelming demand.

After news of a deal that could see some health workers getting up to 29 per cent more, they went online in their droves to see how they will be affected.

NHS workers' pay has been capped to a 1% increase since 2010.

A message on the pay calculator tool at nhspay.org said: "Apologies, due to high levels of traffic, the pay calculator needs some adjustments to get it up and running again.

"We are working to get this done. Please check back later."

Frustrated NHS staff took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, with one man writing: "Would love to tell [you] what my pay rise is but the NHS pay rise calculator is over loaded and not working since yesterday.

"There is an apology on the website for not coping with the unexpected demand!"
