Niall Horan has given an indication as to when One Direction might start making music together again, while explaining that it was tiredness and “s****y arguments” that split the band apart in the first place.

The Irish musician - who shared a stage with fellow members Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles after the group was put together on The X Factor in 2010 - told The Telegraph that despite their huge success, the foursome would bicker due to their demanding schedules.

"It was incredible,” the 26-year-old told the publication.

“But we were all knackered. Not tired of it, just tired out. I can never really remember any major bust-ups, just brotherly family nagging s****y arguments like that.

"But we were gonna gonna end up killing each other. We all sat down one day, had a chat and it was like, 'We need to take a break, chill out and try something new'."

Just one year after Zayn Malik left the band in 2015, Horan, Payne, Tomlinson and Styles announced that they were going on an indefinite hiatus to focus on solo ventures.

All four have continued to make music, while Horan has explored golf and Styles has dabbled in modelling and acting after landing a role in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed war drama Dunkirk.

"I'm enjoying what I'm doing, but if one of the lads were to pick up the phone and say,'It’s time, I’d do it',” the Nice To Meet Ya singer confessed. "There was no timeline on the gap. I would have preferred if someone said five years, and it probably will end up something like that."
