Nicholas Galitzine will star as He-Man in new live-action movie from Amazon

"Masters of the Universe" is set to hit theaters in summer 2026.

Amazon is going all-in on Nicholas Galitzine.

After starring as a lovestruck musician in The Idea of You and a charming English prince in Red, White, & Royal Blue, the actor will next don a harness to play He-Man in a live-action Masters of the Universe film for the studio.

"We're thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn't be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man," Amazon MGM Studios executive Julie Rapaport said in a statement Wednesday. "This reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia."

Mattel's Masters of the Universe franchise originally began as a toy line in 1982, before it was accompanied by the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe a few years later. The protagonist, Prince Adam of the planet Eternia, can transform himself into the mighty hero He-Man by raising his Power Sword and invoking the words "By the power of Grayskull!" With his sword and strength, He-Man defends Eternia and the secrets of Castle Grayskull from the forces of the evil sorcerer Skeletor.

Beyond the original animated series, Prince Adam/He-Man was portrayed by Dolph Lundgren in the 1987 live-action film Masters of the Universe. The character and his twin sister, She-Ra, have never been far from the screen; the latter was the focus of Netflix's animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which ran from 2018 to 2020 and never featured He-Man. Instead, he is the focus of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, an animated series overseen by Kevin Smith that premiered on Netflix in 2021.

This new live-action film, meanwhile, has been gestating for years. To All the Boys I've Loved Before star Noah Centineo was in talks to star as He-Man in 2019, but was replaced by Kyle Allen when the project moved to Netflix in 2022. In the wake of Mattel's massive success with Barbie last year, Masters of the Universe is now set at Amazon, and Galitzine has the Power Sword.

The new Masters of the Universe movie is set to hit theaters June 25, 2026.
