Nicola Sturgeon's dad hailed hero after rushing to aid of young family member who collapsed at beach
Nicola Sturgeon ’s dad has been hailed a hero after he rushed to save a young relative who collapsed on a beach.
The family drama happened on Saturday just two days after the former first minister’s husband Peter Murrell was charged with embezzling money from the SNP.
Her dad Robin, a former SNP candidate who is in his 70s, helped the relative on the dunes at Irvine beach.
His other daughter Gillian told her online followers: “She took unwell at the beach and lost consciousness.”
She and her dad then waited for an ambulance to take the teenager to hospital.
The ex-FM’s sister wrote: “Not long back from hospital.”
She then explained how her relative “fell unconscious at beach” and “had terrible chest pain and uncontrollable shaking” after they came to.
Gillian added: “When her friends called me I thought the worst. Ambulance arrived and all tests done. Core temperature had dropped low and sugar levels low.”
She added in her online post: “Thinks it’s been a day of some alcohol at last day of school celebrations, not enough to eat and not wearing enough.
“I can’t put into words the fright I got.
“By the time dad and I got to her away in middle of sand dunes she was a bit more responsive.
“Thankfully an ambulance got there quickly.
“Also thanks to my dad for coming with me and my family for always being there at a time of need.
“It’s really just so overwhelming right now. Like a bad dream that just keeps going on.”
Later Gillian’s followers asked how the young family member was doing and she told them after paramedics checked the youngster out it looked “like hypothermia”.
She added: “Hope my poor dad is relaxing after running up what felt like 20 sand dunes last night in the dark.”
