Nicole Kidman was criticised after failing to thank her adopted children during her acceptance speech at the Emmy Awards.

The Australian actress, 50, picked up the Outstanding Lead Actress gong for her role as Celeste in hit HBO series Big Little Lies at Sunday night’s bash.

On collecting the award she spoke about her two biological daughters, Sunnie and Faith, who she has with husband Keith Urban, but failed to mention her two adopted children, Isabella and Connor, from her relationship with ex-husband Tom Cruise.

“I have two little girls – Sunnie and Faith – and my darling Keith who I asked to help me pursue this artistic path. And they have to sacrifice so much for it,” she told the star-studded crowd.

“So this is yours. I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go, ‘Every time my mumma didn’t put me to bed it’s because of this – [at least] I got something!’”

Fans were quick to question why Isabella and Connor were not mentioned, with one branding the omission “messed up”.

One user tweeted: “I loved Nicole Kidman's speech at the #Emmys but doesn't she have two other kids she forgot to mention...?”

Another wrote: “Doesn't Nicole Kidman have 4 kids? Seems harsh to only mention the younger 2 in an #emmys acceptance speech.”
