Jamie Lloyd’s production of Sunset Boulevard will transfer to Broadway in 2024, with Nicole Scherzinger reprising her role as Norma Desmond.

The revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical moves to Broadway from London, where it has been playing since September. Scherzinger will be joined on Broadway by her London co-stars: Tom Francis as Joe Gillis, Grace Hodgett-Young as Betty Schaefer and David Thaxton as Max Von Mayerling.

Exact dates and a theater for the Broadway run have not yet been announced. The London run is scheduled to end Jan. 6.

This will mark the Broadway debut for Scherzinger, who was formerly a member of the pop group The Pussycat Dolls. She previously starred in Lloyd Webber’s Cats on the West End and has made appearances as a judge on shows such as X Factor and The Masked Singer.

Her performance and Lloyd’s stripped-down take on the production, which includes a spare set and the use of video cameras to capture actors on and off the stage, have been praised by critics in London. Lloyd also directed last season’s A Doll’s House, starring Jessica Chastain, and the 2019 production of Betrayal, starring Tom Hiddleston, Zawe Ashton and Charlie Cox, on Broadway.

The musical, which initially premiered in London in 1993, is based on the 1950 Billy Wilder film and follows Desmond, a former movie star, who is haunted by her memories and dreams of her career, while hoping to return to the big screen. She ropes a struggling screenwriter (played by Francis) into this endeavor, but the relationship between the two quickly becomes toxic as they both grapple with their desire for fame.

The show is well-known for Lloyd Webber’s score, featuring songs such as “As If We Never Said Goodbye,” “With One Look,” “The Perfect Year,” and the leading ladies who have played Desmond, including Patti LuPone, Glenn Close and Betty Buckley. The book and lyrics are by Don Black and Christopher Hampton.

The Jamie Lloyd Company, Ambassador Theatre Group Productions, Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and Gavin Kalin Productions are producers.

The musical features set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, choreography by Fabian Aloise, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Adam Fisher and video design and cinematography by Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom.
