Niecy Nash 'So Proud' of Her 'Real Cousins' Danielle Brooks, Sterling K. Brown After Their Oscar Nominations

Niecy Nash-Betts is thrilled for her extended family this awards season!
After nominations for the upcoming 96th Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, Nash-Betts, 53, shared a photo of herself posing with Danielle Brooks and Sterling K. Brown to Instagram as she congratulated both on their nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. In the post, Nash-Betts added the three share family ties as cousins.
"Both of my COUSINS are OSCAR NOMINATED ‼️‼️ Yes! We are blood related! REAL cousins!" she wrote in a caption to her post. "I’m so proud of my fam! @thedaniellebrooks @sterlingkbrown I’m rooting for you! 💜🎉💜🎉💜🎉💜🎉."
Both Brown, 47, and Brooks, 34, are first-time Oscar nominees for their performances in American Fiction and The Color Purple, respectively. Brown's movie received five total nominations including for his performance, while Brooks stands alone as The Color Purple's only nominee at the upcoming awards ceremony.

Nash-Betts herself recently won outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for her performance in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story at the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.
Back in 2018, Nash-Betts presented Brown with a Screen Actors Guild Award when he became the first Black actor to win a SAG Award in outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series for This Is Us.

In American Fiction, Brown costars with Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross and Erika Alexander as Clifford "Cliff" Ellison, the brother of Wright's lead character Thelonious "Monk" Ellison. Monk and Cliff are shown repairing their relationship in the wake of family turmoil through the movie, while Monk confronts complications from the resounding success of a novel he wrote to make fun of stereotypes in literature. Cord Jefferson, who wrote, produced directed the movie, received two Oscar nominations Tuesday for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture, while Wright, 58, received a nomination for Best Actor.

Brooks reprised her Color Purple role as Sofia in the new movie musical after she first played the character in the show's 2015 Broadway revival. She costars alongside Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Corey Hawkins and Colman Domingo, among others, in the film.
The 96th annual Academy Awards will be held Sunday, March 10, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will air live on ABC. Jimmy Kimmel will host the awards ceremony for the fourth time.
