The Night Agent's Robert Patrick replaces 24 star in Reacher season 2

Reacher, the Prime Video TV series starring Alan Ritchson, has just added Robert Patrick to its season two line-up.

The star of Netflix's The Night Agent is replacing 24 and Boston Strangler's Rory Cochrane in the role of Shane Langston after scheduling conflicts saw him bow out of the show, TVLine reports.

The actor will be playing a former NYPD detective with a questionable track record who is now head of security for a private defence contractor, which is based on the Jack Reacher series of novels by Lee Child.

Up until now, news about Reacher season two has been scarce, but Amazon Studios' head of television Vernon Sanders recently gave a promising update on how things were going to Collider.

"It's going really well," he said. "Alan is back, and he is so fantastic in the role. I'm so proud of the producers [for] finding that fit for Reacher. The Reacher fans of the book, their reaction to the show has just been a dream.

"Season 2 is awesome. And as great as season 1 was, I think season 2 delivers beyond that, and I do think there's a good chance that that show will be back next year."

One person who won't be back for season 2 is Willa Fitzgerald, previously telling Digital Spy that she knew it was only going to be for one series.

"Yeah, I did know that from the get-go," she said. "I think that's a great opportunity to get to tell a clean and complete story, and then be able to walk away. I think it's a unique experience in TV.

"It's nice to have the agency to know that that is a complete, finished product."

Reacher is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
