A new late night bar in Hull's Princes Quay with its own pond and botanical décor has taken a step closer to opening after lodging a licensing application.

Iron Lilies, a 200-seat restaurant and bar, would be permitted to open between 8am and 3am seven days a week if its licence application is approved by Hull City Council. Venue and Princes Quay owner Tokyo Industries has previously said the look of Iron Lilies was intended to make a statement and offer patrons an enchanting dining experience.

The application for an alcohol licence comes as works have been taking place to convert the former Virgin Megastore unit in Princes Quay into the bar and restaurant. Tokyo Industries previously lodged a planning application which has since been approved while the venture has also been backed with £750,000 in Levelling Up funding.

Tokyo Industries has said that Iron Lilies, on Level 2 of Princes Quay, will celebrate the whimsical world of botany with its nature and plant life themes. The company said: "This new restaurant and bar concept will feature themed areas taking you on a journey through the lily pond and to sit among the overgrown greenery and giant lily pads. The theme and sets throughout add to the magic of this restaurant and bar experience."

Plans for the venue stated that visitors would arrive at an artistic, vibrant bar entrance designed to make a statement. The Palm Room, a casual drinking and dining area, would be located just off the bar and allow visitors to sit among overgrown ivy and greenery.

There is also set to be a main restaurant area under a glazed roof which would let in natural light. The venue will house a lily pond feature with paths passing through to take people to its tree house dining area.

Iron Lilies is also set to feature an outdoor River Terrace fitted with a retractable canopy to protect it from the weather so people can enjoy year-round al fresco dining. Tokyo Industries' licence application is open for comments until Monday, May 27.
