Nissan is bringing its self-driving cars to UK streets next month.

The on-road demos will take place in London and will showcase a modified version of the Nissan LEAF.

The trial will mark the first time that the maker’s self-driving cars have been tested on public roads in Europe.

Passengers, including government officials and technical and safety experts, will be given the opportunity to test out the next-gen tech on the open road.

The trial will involved updated versions of the maker’s LEAF electric cars.

The on-board technology will enable the car to move without a driver.

However, the car still requires a person to be ready in the driving seat in case of an emergency, according to the law.

The UK government is currently in the process if developing new laws to govern how self-driving cars can be used on public roads.

The new vehicles will see Nissan going head-to-head with various other car and tech firms including Tesla, Google and Uber – all of which had been working on self-driving car technology.

Nissan has previously stated that it plans to have full autonomous cars on the roads by 2020.
