Birmingham Airport has issued no apology to passengers despite a chaotic morning with queues snaking outside the transport hub. Instead, airport chiefs said the airport was "naturally busy as you would expect for a Friday getaway".

It came after furious passengers today claimed they were forced to endure near two-hour queues to get through security. Airport bosses were met with fresh complaints of their operation being a "shambles".

Furious passenger Margaret Burke said: "Shame on the management of the airport - how dare passengers be treated with so much disrespect. "It's not a good look for Birmingham," another said.

The airport released a statement following the early-morning delays. But it chose not to apologise despite countless complaints from customers.

An airport spokesperson told us: "With the ongoing construction works and liquid restrictions in place, the airport was naturally busy as you would expect for a Friday getaway. Queues can be seen daily at peak times, which is natural for any airport.

"A picture of a queue is subjective, and in the moment, at that time. We strongly advise that customers follow our advice and turn up only in line with their check in opening time.

"We ask customers, check our social channels and website to follow our simple instructions to make travelling through BHX easier for all.”
