Steven Schumacher is glad he will have a straight-talking head of recruitment to work alongside in Lee Darnbrough.

Darnbrough has moved to Stoke from Hull City to help run transfer business at a club where important appointments have been made in key roles over the last few months overseeing which players will come in and go out.

Schumacher joined as head coach in December and Jon Walters arrived back in late February while Darnbrough will work with a recruitment department which includes trusted staffers Mama Sidibe and Scott Coomber.

“I hadn’t worked with Lee before but all the people I spoke to who had have said he was a real good guy who tells it how it is,” said Schumacher.

“That’s how I like to work. It’s so important. There’s no secrets, if you’ve got an opinion on something, say it.

“I’ve been in with him and Jon going through all the recruitment and hopefully he can make a big impact.”

Darnbrough's own hopes as a goalkeeper were dashed due to injury but instead he has had a career behind the scenes, working for West Bromwich Albion, Burnley and Norwich before joining Hull in 2017.
