Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick reveals how his dog saved his life
The star's beloved dog Keira died in 2021
What did you miss?
Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick moved This Morning viewers as he told how his late dog Keira saved his life.
The border terrier died in 2021 and the vet said at the time that his heart was "truly broken" and that Keira had been his "best friend in the whole wide world".
He has now penned a book – entitled Keira And Me – which celebrates their bond.
What, how, and why?
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, Fitzpatrick revealed how he tried to save his beloved dog and held her heart in his hands as she died.
“In the end… I don’t suppose very many people in their lives have actually felt the heart of their best friend stop in their fingers and in the end when I cut down on her chest to try and save her, in the end, her heart was actually on my fingers as she passed,” he said.
“And that put me in touch with something ethereal, something that transcends us and that is unconditional love.”
The TV star told hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary that Keira had been a “stent” through life’s obstacles for him.
“For me having her in my life was the best friend and the best experience I ever had and I’m so grateful for her being a conduit, a heart stent through all of the blockages of life,” he explained.
“She just cut right through and said, ‘Daddy it’s great to be alive’.”
Hammond asked the star if he felt Keira had saved his life.
“She did,” he replied.
“And I say at the very end of the book, when night’s pillow nuzzles back the day, the only light you get to keep is the love you gave away.”
Fitzpatrick also said the book is special because “Keira wrote it through me”.
“It looks like she would have wanted it to look,” he said.
What did viewers say?
His words touched viewers, who posted messages on social media saying how sorry they were for his loss.
“Awww Noel talking about his dog,” said one person on X, which used to be Twitter.
“I know how much Keira meant to Noel, she was a lovely wee dog,” said another.
“Noel was destined to become a supervet,” said another fan, adding a single red heart emoji.
