Noel Gallagher criticised by disability charity over alleged remarks

Noel Gallagher has been criticised by the disability charity Scope over alleged remarks he made at Glastonbury Festival.

It was reported by The Mirror that the former Oasis guitarist made jokes about disabled people while watching Jamie T from the disabled viewing platform at the Worthy Farm festival last weekend.

The newspaper reported that he joked he would have 'tipped' a disabled person out of their wheelchair so he could sit at the front of the show. He was said to have used his 'access all areas' pass to get a better view, accompanied by his Radio X co-presenter Matt Morgan.

In response, Warren Kirwan, who is the media manager for Scope, spoke to the Daily Mail about the alleged remarks.

He said: "The casual abuse and belittling of disabled people in this interview is vile."

Kirwan added: "Noel Gallagher and Matt Morgan should know better and hold their heads in shame. There is no excuse for this kind of language. On top of that, accessible platforms aren't for privileged rock stars and their friends.

"These platforms exist so that disabled people can enjoy live music — without them many of our festivals would simply be off limits."

Yahoo has reached out to Gallagher's representatives for comment but they have yet to respond.

Last weekend, Gallagher performed at the festival for the fourth time but it was his first appearance as a solo artist.

Gallagher played on the Saturday night before headliner Paul McCartney who brought out special guests Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl for his lengthy, career-spanning set.

Gallagher was also spotted hanging out with Springsteen over the weekend. Stella McCartney posted a picture of them online at the festival along with Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne.

Oasis' chief songwriter brought out a number of the Manchester band's most famous hits such as 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back in Anger' but also performed an array of solo material and a Beatles cover during his set.
