Noel Gallagher makes Celtic vs Rangers title prediction as Oasis star put on the spot

Noel Gallagher reckons Rangers are in the driving seat in the title race. But former Oasis frontman has backed Celtic to reach the finishing line as champions.

Rock idol Noel was put on the spot by Rangers legend Ally McCoist after appearing as a guest on this morning's talkSPORT Breakfast show. The High Flying Birds singer, 56, tuned into Sunday's Old Firm classic at Ibrox as Gers fought back from two goals down at half-time to snatch a dramatic point in the dying minutes thanks to a wondergoal from Rabbi Matondo.

Despite being a Manchester City diehard, Noel has always had a soft spot for Celtic after visiting Parkhead in the past. But when McCoist asked him for a prediction on who will be crowned Premiership winners, the 56-year-old was initially hesitant

Looking back on the weekend's drama, he said: "What a game that was. Rangers had equalised and Celtic go up the other end and score - I thought that was it. But now Rangers are in the driving seat because if they win the game in hand they are ahead. But, you can't call it..."

Celtic-daft presenter Alan Brazil urged Noel to get off the fence, though, as he pointed out that the final league Glasgow derby will take place at Parkhead.

That appeared to sway the singer-songwriter's decision as he responded: "Well, yeah. I have got to say the Bhoys will do it, yeah." While his answer was music to the ears of Brazil, sidekick McCoist wasn't as impressed, joking: "You have let the side down there, Noel."
