Norfolk butchers named best in UK

A Norfolk butchers has been honoured at an event known as the 'Rural Oscars'.

Arthur Howell Butchers in Wells-next-the-Sea won the butcher category at the Countryside Alliance.

The event, which was held at the House of Lords on Tuesday, covers five categories: ‘best pub’, ‘best village shop/post office’, ‘best butcher’, ‘best for local food a drink’ and the ‘rural enterprise award’.

Thousands of nominations from around the country were whittled down via a public vote.

The judging panel said of Arthur Howell Butchers: “The business engages with the community while serving a loyal customer base, contributing to the vibrant local culture.

"Arthur has a small farm where not only does he produce top quality meat, he promotes wildlife and biodiversity.”

Mr Howell said: “I’m really glad to win this award – it helps us so much in all our work and it’s great that my staff can have national recognition.”
