The full list of candidates contesting 12 positions on North East Lincolnshire Council at local elections in May has been published.

The deadline for candidates' nomination papers was 4pm on Friday, April 5 with the election taking place on Thursday, May 2.

Meanwhile, the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner election will be held across all northern Lincolnshire wards - as well as those in Hull and the East Riding - on May 2, as well. Like last year, registered voters will be required to have photo ID to be able to vote in person at polling stations on election day.

A Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat candidate is standing in every ward up for election in North East Lincolnshire. Of the rest, in total there are ten Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) party candidates, and three independents. Two of the independents are backed by the Independents for North East Lincolnshire party group.

Voters in Freshney, South and Yarborough Wards will have the longest ballot papers, where there are five candidates standing. In the wards of Croft Baker and East Marsh the choice for voters will be only between the three main parties. The council is currently made up of 27 Conservatives, nine Labour councillors, three Liberal Democrats, and three Independents for North East Lincolnshire.

This is the last of four consecutive years of local elections held in North East Lincolnshire, a situation partly caused by the pandemic. Next year will be the fallow year for local elections in the borough.

This article has been updated after North East Lincolnshire Council republished the nomination papers, with the addition of the TUSC candidate for Park Ward.
