Five years after taking control of North East Lincolnshire Council, the Conservatives now find themselves the largest party but short of a majority.

Twelve out of the 42 seats on the council were up for election on Thursday, May 2, but the Conservatives lost eight of the 11 they were defending to Labour and Independent candidates.

The losses mean the Conservatives now have 19 councillors out of 42, with Labour on 15, the Independents for North East Lincolnshire on 5, and the Liberal Democrats on 3. The council has therefore been left 'hung' with no party in overall control.
