These are the restaurants, chefs and entrepreneurs who will represent the North East at the Prestige Curry Awards 2024.

Established to "spotlight excellence" in the curry industry, this year's ceremony takes place at the London Hilton hotel in Watford. A few familiar faces from the North East are expected to travel down, with nominees from the region contesting categories including best fine-dining, best local restaurant, and chef of the year.

Jashn, in Swalwell, will be hoping to retain its award for the best fine-dining restaurant, which it scooped in 2023, while the founder of Koh-I-Noor in Newcastle is a nominee for the pioneer of Indian Cuisine category. 80-year-old Muhammad Abdul Baki may not be at the restaurant at the Bigg Market anymore, but he is still offering his expertise at Dhamaka in Cramlington, Northumberland.

Awards are decided by secret diners, with the aim of ensuring an unbiased selection of the best in the business. It is hoped that the giving of awards will not only honour outstanding individuals and establishments, but also recognise the future of the curry industry.

Asif Iqbal founder of the Prestige Curry Awards, said: "I am thrilled to see the incredible talent and dedication within the curry industry being recognised and celebrated. This event not only honours our current stars, but also shines a light on the future of curry cuisine.
