North East Somerset and Hanham general election 2024 results in full as Jacob Rees-Mogg contests seat

Voters in North East Somerset and Hanham have gone to the ballot box in the general election 2024.

A new Member of Parliament is being elected for the Somerset and Gloucestershire constituency which includes the wards of Chew Valley; Clutton & Farmborough; High Littleton; Keynsham East; Keynsham North; Keynsham South; Mendip; Paulton; Publow & Whitchurch; Saltford; Timsbury; Bitton & Oldland Common; Hanham; Longwell Green and Parkwall & Warmley.

The new seat was created for the 2024 election from the now-abolished constituencies of North East Somerset and Kingswood. Among the candidates contesting the seat were Conservative Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg. He served as Leader of the House of Commons and Lord President of the Council from 2019 to 2022, Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency from February to September 2022 and Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy from September to October 2022.

The shock summer general election was called by Rishi Sunak on May 22, with elections taking place in all 650 seats across the UK. Since the 2019 general election major boundary changes affecting 90% of Parliamentary constituencies have come into force.

Ahead of the election, a Conservative government had been in power in Parliament since 2010.

Polls closed in the general election 2024 at 10pm on Thursday, July 4, with counts taking place overnight. Results from across the UK are expected in the early hours of Friday morning.
