North East's 'most romantic pigsty' invites couples to hog rooms while they can

A luxury new addition to a County Durham hotel is set to have loved-up guests squealing with delight as it reveals added extras such as mirror ceilings and outdoor saunas.

The Impeccable Pig in Sedegfield, which offers accommodation, a restaurant and pub, has already made a name for itself with its themed rooms, including one named after Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. And now the hotel, described as 'the most romantic pigsty in the world', is going on step further with its latest invitation to 'come and sty'.

It has converted an old coach house in its grounds into 12 luxury bedrooms. Spread across two floors, these new additions include two suites which have been designed with love in mind - and to add to the temptations on offer the hotel is currently offering a 15% discount too on certain dates up until the end of August.

Among the choices is Squealers, which boasts an animal-print theme; a circular velvet 'day-bed' and a raised-level bathroom with double 'rainfall showers' as well as a copper bath big enough for two. There's also Porco Rosso, which has the mirror ceiling and a heavily-draped four-poster bed where guests can recline against a backdrop of saffron and burnt umber colours.

The biggest of the new rooms is the Whole Hog, whose big stand-out features are a seven-foot ornate bed and a round free-standing copper and tin bath. Other treats included in this room are a walk-in rainfall shower and a private garden with a four-seater hot tub and sauna.

More pig-named room options include Oinkers; Globe Trotter and Babe alongside the likes of the French-theme Le Cochon D'or, which has hanging blossoms and gold tiles; The Dirty Pig, with gold tiles and a fur-lined wall, and Three Little Pigs which features the quirky use of the nursery story-theme bricks, sticks and straw.

Among them is also The Pigsty, with a Moroccan twist in addition to brick walls and scenes of trees. And there's plenty opportunity to pig out.

Arron Herd, general manager of the County Durham hotel, said of the new rooms: “Our aim in creating The Impeccable Pig was to make it fun, with such great food and drink that no-one wanted to leave - which is why they are the most perfect choice for a romantic getaway.”
