North West Essex General Election 2024 results as Kemi Badenoch holds onto seat

Polls had predicted she could have lost her seat but Kemi Badenoch has retained North West Essex in the latest General Election. North West Essex elected the Conservative candidate who has been incredibly vocal in this campaign.

The winning party received 19,360 votes with Labour coming in second with Issy Waite getting 16,750 votes. Grant John Maxwell StClair-Armstrong won 7,668 in third place for Reform UK and Smita Rajesh came in fourth for the Lib Dems with 6,055 votes.

Edward Vernon Gildea for the Greens got 2,846 votes, followed by 3 Independent candidates. Erik Bonino got 699 votes, Andrew David Green got 852 votes and Niko Omilana got 156 votes.

The Tories have lost many of their seats in Essex - and nationally Conservatives have dropped, conceding hundreds of seats to Labour. Soon to be the new prime minister Sir Keir Starmer said the UK was waking up this morning to “the sunlight of hope”, which was “shining once again on a country with the opportunity after 14 years to get its future back”.

Outgoing prime minister Rishi Sunak said: “The Labour Party has won this General Election and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory.” Mr Sunak added: “Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner with goodwill on all sides.

“And it’s something that should give us all confidence in our country’s stability and future.The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn… and I take responsibility for the loss. To the many good, hard-working Conservative candidates who lost tonight, despite their tireless efforts, their local records and delivery, and their dedication to their communities. I am sorry.”
