North West Leicestershire chooses next MP as General Election results announced

North West Leicestershire has elected its first female MP after a tense and close fight at the ballot box. It was in the small hours of Friday (June 5) when the area’s newest Parliamentary representative was confirmed.

Labour’s Amanda Hack won the seat, becoming the party’s first MP since the late David Taylor, with 16,871 votes. She was narrowly ahead of the Conservatives Craig Smith who took in 15,879 votes.

Amanda’s win - a majority of just 1,012 - came as North West Leicestershire recorded a lower turnout than in 2019, with just 62.65 per cent of the electorate casting their ballot. The win brings to an end 14 years of Andrew Bridgen’s time as MP for the constituency.
