We might be halfway through June but the weather is still much cooler and more unsettled than we would like for the time of year.

Unfortunately the outlook for the coming days from the Met Office doesn't show any sign of improvement either with temperatures still below average and straying quite breezy with moderate winds.

The forecast for Saturday will see early showery rain clearing to leave drier but cloudy conditions for a time. Sunny spells and scattered showers in the afternoon before clearing skies in the evening.

Sunday is expected to be largely cloudy with spells of light rain moving in from the north but drier in southern areas. The cloud will eventually break up bringing sunshine later in the day. Both Monday and Tuesday look set to be generally dry days with a mix of variable cloud and sunny spells with just a small chance of the odd spot of rain.

Here's what to expect in Northern Ireland over the next few days, according to the Met Office.

Friday:

Partly cloudy to start, but becoming a brighter day with some sunshine along with a few showers, with the odd heavy one possible through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

A few showers at first, possibly heavy in places. These dying out through the evening. Turning cloudier from the west with some outbreaks of rain extending southeast. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Saturday:

A cloudy morning with showery rain pushing southeast. Then brighter spells and some showers will develop through the afternoon, these heavy at times. Becoming drier and clearer in the evening. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday unsettled with showers or longer spells of rain, some heavy, but some sunshine around too. Probably fewer showers around by Monday and Tuesday.

UK long range weather forecast: Tuesday 18 June - Thursday 27 June

It is most probable that initially fine conditions will prevail for most, with more changeable conditions with cloud and some rain being confined to the far north and northwest, temperatures will likely be close to or slightly above average.

Although even during this time, a few daytime showers could pop up in the east. However, there is a slight chance of an alternative scenario that initially an area of cloud could edge northwestwards from Europe and bring a few days of thundery rain and fairly hot / humid conditions to the southeast.

Into the last week of June, on balance it appears more probable that milder than average conditions will continue, with the wind from the southerly quadrant. During this time rainfall looks quite variable (some places dry others wet).
