The "enchanted" light trail that lit up Newcastle's Leazes Park last winter is set to return for a second year with a reimagined route through the city park.

Branded a resounding success after attracting 100,000 visitors over its five-week run in December 2023, Northern Lights returns with a completely reimagined route comprising of 12 - 15 new illuminations and magical zones with special effects. There will also be vintage fairground rides and a larger Christmas Village than last year, selling artisan food and drink.

Displays included the Christmas Twist, a tunnel of light where colours changed all around those walking through it, and Aurora Rising, where hundreds of coloured balls floated on the Leazes Park Lake. ChronicleLive gave the light trail a rave review in its first year, while it also gained the attention of national media, with the Guardian recommending it as one of the best events of its kind in the UK before it had even opened.

Roxy Robinson, creative director at From the Fields, said: "It’s a privilege to return to the city of Newcastle with our second edition of Northern Lights. Our followers in the region have welcomed us with such warmth and support, we are thrilled to bring them together at Northern Lights once again.

"Since January we've been working hard on completely reimagining our trail for 2024, and we have some seriously exciting zones to unveil. Our whole team is looking forward to giving visitors a completely unique and unforgettable experience."

The trail is fully accessible and takes around 90 minutes to complete. Tickets cost £19.50 for adults and £13.95 for children, with children under two going free.

After a sell-out first year in 2023, organisers are advising potential visitors that demand is expected to be high. Early birds can sign up for special ticket prices via: https://northernlightsnewcastle.com/signup/.
