Customers have been issued with a 'do not eat' warning over a wrap due to possible contamination with E. coli.

THIS! is recalling their 'Isn't Chicken and Bacon' wrap products that are sold in WHSmith stores. E. coli has not been detected in the product, but it is being recalled as a precaution, the Food Standards Agency said.

The plant based product, with a use by date up to, and including, June 18, may have a possible presence of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC).

Symptoms caused by STEC organisms include severe diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and sometimes haemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and can be fatal.

Although no presence of E. coli has been detected in the wraps, the alert says the recall is being taken as a precaution following the 'recently reported outbreak' of the bacteria.

It comes after a range of sandwiches, wraps, and salads were urgently recalled from various UK retailers due to a potential E. coli contamination scare.

THIS! said: "We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. Consumer safety is our ultimate priority and we are therefore taking a precautionary approach to keep our consumers safe."

Anyone who has purchased the product is being told to not consume it, and instead return it to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.
