Nottingham beach is just days away from returning and people can't wait

Nottingham's beach is just days away from returning for the summer, with contractors busily transforming Old Market Square into a tropical paradise (without the weather ). The summer pop-up will be in the city between July 17 and September 1.

The Santorini-themed attraction will offer a “bigger and better” pool and beach area as well as a range of attractions including a giant slide, Starflyer, Bungee trampolines and Bumper boats. James Mellor from the Mellors Group said: “We are delighted to bring back Nottingham Beach to the city centre. This year, we’ve increased the size of the beach and pool area, re-themed the beach bar and added more rides and tractions to give visitors even more variety”.

Lots of people in the city are looking forward to the beach's return, especially as they look to entertain the kids during the summer holiday without spending a fortune. Christine Wakefield, 74, from Newark, said: “I have taken the grandchildren and niece’s little boy several times… I think it is brilliant to have to keep the kids entertained during the holidays”.

Jackie Hailes, 78, who lives in the Rushcliffe area said: “I really liked the beach I think it’s a good idea. It’s somewhere to take the children to play and have fun. Not all children can go to the seaside so it is a good alternative. Also, it’s safe and brightens up Nottingham for the summer”.

Ethan Campbell, 18 who lives near the city centre has fond memories of summers in the market square as “it was always something to look forward to, it was a good day out and so close to home”. Jill, 62 from West Bridgford, said: “I always bring my grandchildren to the summer market square, they love the beach and having a paddle. It’s just a treat for me in the six-week holidays… It’s just great fun and we look forward to it every year”.

There are lots of different events including live entertainment from noon on Thursday to Sunday as well as salsa, volleyball and film nights. .

For visitors craving something tasty, there will be a variety of stalls offering food, drink, and indulgent treats. Embrace the Santorini vibe with hearty Greek gyros or indulge your sweet tooth with Nutella-filled crepes.
