Nottingham Forest agree £30m to £40m transfer as Nuno closes on third summer signing

Nottingham Forest have struck a deal with Newcastle United to sign their highly-rated midfielder Elliot Anderson. The Reds are taking advantage of Newcastle's need to sell players before the end of the day to ensure they comply with the Premier League's stringent Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Forest are doing deals of their own, and Moussa Niakhaté is on the verge of a transfer to French side Lyon. ChronicleLive says a deal worth £30m to £40 million has been agreed for Anderson, and the midfielder is now due at the City Ground to complete his move.

The report claims Newcastle are reluctant sellers and Anderson didn't want to leave his boyhood club, but favourable personal terms have been agreed between Forest and the 21-year-old.

Anderson has only started 13 Premier League games for the Magpies but he has made 44 top-flight appearances in total. He also featured in Champions League games against AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain last season.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has spoken highly of Anderson throughout the last two seasons and will be loathed to lose him. Speaking in May, Howe said: "Elliot has come through the academy here. When I first came to the club, we were aware of him and his talents. He’s really worked on all aspects of the game, and I think he’s been really reliable for us.

"Whatever position I have used in him, he has done very well. Tactically I have asked him to do a couple of things that the team has needed, and he’s done it very well. I am really pleased with his level of maturity and his tactical understanding."

Newcastle need to balance their books, though, and have also been forced to sell winger Yankuba Minteh to Brighton for £33m. Their loss could well be Forest's gain.

If all goes to plan Anderson will become Forest's third summer signing after deals for Marko Stamenic and Eric da silva Moreira, although they have both been signed with the future in mind.
