Nottingham Forest have activated a one-year extension option in defender Ola Aina’s contract.

The full-back joined the Reds as a free agent last summer and went on to have an excellent first season at the City Ground. He will now spend another campaign with the club, with his deal running until 2025.

Aina said: “I’ve been really happy with my time spent here at Forest and the fans have been great. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”

The defender was absent for last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Burnley as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side mathematically secured Premier League survival. In total, he made 22 appearances in the Garibaldi in the 2023/24 campaign.

“Since Ola joined the club last summer he has impressed all of us with his performances both on the pitch and also with the positive personality that he brings to the group every day,” said chief football officer Ross Wilson. “We are delighted that he will move forward with us.”

Aina’s contract extension comes as the Reds have already started work on shaping the squad for next term. The departures of centre-back Felipe, midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate and goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey have been announced ahead of their deals expiring, while the loans of Gio Reyna, Divock Origi, Nuno Tavares, Gonzalo Montiel and Rodrigo Ribeiro have come to an end.

Defender Willy Boly is also due to see his contract expire this summer. It is expected the Reds will look to keep him on, as they have with Aina. Loic Mbe Soh, Scott McKenna and Harry Arter are due to depart as free agents.
