Nottingham Forest will play Villarreal in a pre-season friendly at the City Ground next month.

The Reds will host the Spanish side on Friday, August 2. Kick-off Trentside is scheduled for 8pm.

The match represents Forest’s first friendly at their home stadium in five years. The last time they hosted a pre-season clash was in July 2019, when they drew 2-2 with Real Sociedad.

Confirmation of the game means the Reds’ pre-season schedule has now been finalised. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will play six friendlies as part of their preparations for the 2024/25 Premier League season.

The club have said: “Ticket details for this friendly, including how season card holders can gain free entry, will be confirmed in due course. The Villarreal fixture, along with Forest’s five other pre-season friendlies will be streamed live on Forest TV via a bundle, priced at £24.99. Alternatively, single match passes will be available to purchase at £5.99.”

Forest reported back to the Nigel Doughty Academy from their summer break this week. They will make the trip to face Chesterfield on Saturday in their first friendly of the summer.

The players will then travel to Spain for a training camp, where they will play another three matches. The Reds’ B team will be in Spain at the same time and will also play three friendlies at the Pinatar Arena.
