Nottingham Forest have been named as suitors for Hull City defender Jacob Greaves - though only as he seems destined to complete a move to Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town.

Forest 's transfer dealings so far have been done to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules, but now Nuno Espirito Santo has undoubtedly been left light in defence. The sale of Moussa Niakhate following on from Felipe's retirement, plus the releases of Scott McKenna, Loic Mbe Soh and Chiekhou Kouyate, leave few options and even still, Murillo is linked with following all of them out the door before September.

Reinforcements will be required, but now our sister site Hull Live reports that Greaves - said to be a target on the club's watchlist - could be missed out on without rapid action.

The 23-year-old already has 212 senior appearances in the Football League to his name, last season ranking in the 96th percentile amongst Championship central defenders for passes attempted and aerial duels won. Via Fbref.com, uncharacteristically for his natural position he also holds strong ability for both scoring and creating goals.

Greaves is said to be subject to evolving interest from newly-promoted Ipswich Town, with Kieran McKenna hoping to seal a double deal worth a combined £30m plus add-ons for the arrival of both he and teammate Jaden Philogene. Everton and West Ham are also labelled as 'keen', whilst Forest's interest only extends as far as 'tracked over a period of time'.

So, if Forest are to not allow their resources to go to waste then it appears they would be forced to act now to hijack the deal for Greaves. For now though the focus on the East Midlands seems to be on bolstering the goalkeeping department with Corinthians' Carlos Miguel due for a medical and Crystal Palace's Sam Johnstone freshly mooted for a City Ground switch.
