Nottingham Forest are reportedly in talks with Newcastle United over a potential swap deal for winger Anthony Elanga.

The Magpies are said to have their eye on the 22-year-old after he impressed in his first season at the City Ground after arriving from Manchester United. According to The Telegraph, discussions between the two clubs have involved Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson as potential swaps for Elanga.

The news comes as both clubs look to balance their books before Sunday’s accounting deadline. June 30 represents the cut-off for the next Profitability and Sustainability Rules assessment period, leaving several teams in a race to raise revenue.

Forest need to raise funds to avoid another PSR breach after being docked four points last season for falling foul of the regulations. The Telegraph have said the impending sales of Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala to Lyon “should be enough” for the club to avoid another breach.

Newcastle also need to sell, and the Daily Mail report that the Elanga proposal is “one of many” the Magpies are juggling ahead of June 30 as they look to comply with PSR.

As an academy graduate, Anderson would class as pure profit for the Magpies in PSR accounting terms. It is said Forest are “keen” to add the midfielder to their squad but he would “prefer” to stay at St James’ Park.

Minteh, meanwhile, has also been linked with Lyon, Everton and Brighton and Hove Albion. The 19-year-old winger spent last term on loan at Feyenoord where he found the net 11 times and registered six assists in 37 games.

The Reds paid in the region of £15m to sign Elanga from United last summer. Newcastle were reportedly tracking him before he penned a five-year deal Trentside.

The Sweden international’s form tailed off towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign. However, he still finished the season with five goals from 39 appearances in the Garibaldi.
