Nottingham restaurant in the running for English Curry Awards offers 50 per cent off for whole month

A Nottingham restaurant that's had glowing reviews ever since it opened is celebrating its second anniversary with a too good to miss offer. Kottaram has rolled out a special celebratory menu for the whole of July, offering 50 per cent off the food bill for diners who make a reservation and order both a starter and main.

The restaurant is located in Maid Marian Way in an area dominated by competitors, with The Cumin, MemSaab, 4,500 Miles from Delhi. Calcutta Club, and Laguna. And more recently newcomer Akshaya has opened across the road.

But Kottaram's general manager Vinod Payyoor Manghat is confident they have made their presence felt. He said: "Our popularity among our loyal customers is directly proportional to our personalised service standards as well as the no-compromise attitude towards maintaining the quality and authenticity of our dishes."

The commitment to service and quality has led to the restaurant being named a finalist in the English Curry Awards in two categories for outstanding Indian restaurant of the year and best customer service of the year. The winners will be announced on August 19.

The usual pan-Indian menu with best-sellers including tandoori mango prawns, Kottaram masala dosa, Kadal Meen Pollichathu (Kerala style fish), beef bizhi, aubergine curry and bamboo chicken biriyani has been put on hold during July.

While a number of the old favourites appear on the limited edition anniversary menu, there's a host of new dishes for spice fans to try - some of which have not appeared on curry house menus in the city before.

Amongst the new starters are njandu porichat which is a spiced fried soft shell crab, served on a bed of salad. Muyal piralan is rabbit cooked in aromatic spices, coconut and curry leaves. Vegetarian dishes include okra 65, the vegetable sliced and lightly fried with spices.

For mains, new dishes served include nadan kozhi curry, a traditional Kerala-style chicken, njandu curry with crab and duck mappas in a coconut sauce flavoured with onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and spices. A rarely seen traditional south Indian dish of slow-cooked lamb trotters is another diners can try this month.

Meat lovers can look forward to lamb varratu, a Kerala speciality with roasted coconut, while vegetarians can feast on mushroom pepper masala and lentil curry.

Ever popular samosas, lamb cutlets and scallops feature, along with mains such as lamb rogan josh, butter chicken and biriyani, plus a new vegetarian rice dish added.

Vinod said: "We are offering 50 percent off, both as a thank you to the Nottingham public, as well as an opportunity to introduce some truly authentic dishes, that we believe have not been introduced to the British public. We are keen to listen to the feedback that we receive and are open to updating our existing menu."
