Nottingham South General Election results declared with Lilian Greenwood scoring comfortable majority
Lilian Greenwood has been re-elected in Nottingham South for the Labour Party with a big majority. Ms Greenwood beat seven other candidates, with 15,579 of the total vote.
The constituency has returned a Labour MP at every election since 1992, although following its creation in 1983, was held by Martin Brandon-Bravo of the Conservative party for nine years.
“I'm absolutely delighted. I can’t stop smiling. It’s a huge honour to be re-elected," she said. "For the first time, instead of trying to battle for my constituents with a government not on the same page, we will have a government that backs me and backs Nottingham South."
Lilian Greenwood has been the MP for 14 years, succeeding Alan Simpson following his resignation at the 2010 election.
On her plans to celebrate, she added: “One of the things about an election is I stop having a drink during the campaign. So I’m looking forward to after six weeks to a nice pint of Nottingham beer."
