The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Nottinghamshire. Rain is set to fall over the county for three solid days between Tuesday, May 21 and Thursday, May 23.

The warning officially starts from a quarter past midnight on Wednesday morning and lasts until 6am on Thursday. But according to weather forecasts, there is at least a 60% chance of rain on each of the three days.

The Met Office says: "An area of rain is expected to develop across eastern and central England and then move northwestwards to affect northern England and north Wales during Wednesday afternoon. The area of rain could then become slow-moving, heavy and persistent, especially over north-facing hills, before clearing during Thursday morning.

"There is a lot of uncertainty over exactly where the heaviest rain will occur and this warning is likely to be updated. Many places will see 30-40 mm of rain, while a few areas may receive 60-80 mm. There is also a small chance that a few upland areas could see much higher totals, in the order of 100-150 mm."

According to the Met Office's Warning Impact matrix, the warning has a low likelihood with a medium impact. Most of the country could be affected, with the entirety of Nottinghamshire covered by the yellow warning.

Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads, spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings. Fast flowing or deep floodwater is also possible, causing a danger to life and delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible.

It comes after a period of summery weather. Temperatures in Nottingham will drop from 17C on Tuesday to 16C highs on Wednesday and 14C on Thursday before rising again into next week.

The chance of rain in the city will increase steadily from 21% at 12pm on Tuesday to 52% by 7pm and 80% through the night. On Wednesday, the chance of rain is steady at between 70 and 80% and on Thursday, between 55 and 69% until beginning to clear up at aroun 11pm and stopping by the morning, according to the BBC.
